PS5 Controller Stick Drift Fix

As most of us know PS5 Controller stick drift can be very common...​

Try these first it could save you the price of a new controller...​

1. Reset the controller
   • Turn off the PS5.
   • On the back of the controller, find the tiny reset hole near the Sony logo.
   • Use a paperclip/pin and hold the button inside for about 5 seconds.
   • Reconnect the controller with a USB cable and turn the PS5 back on.
2. Update the controller
   • On PS5, go to Settings → Accessories → Controller (General) → DualSense Wireless Controller Device Software.
   • Install any available update.
3. Clean around the affected stick
   • Turn the controller off.
   • Move the problematic stick around in circles while gently blowing compressed air around its base.
   • If you have 90%+ isopropyl alcohol, you can put a very small amount around the stick mechanism and rotate the stick repeatedly.
   • Let it completely dry before using it.
   • Don't spray WD-40 or household cleaners into it.
4. Check whether it's actually drift
   If the character/camera moves even when you're completely hands-off the stick, that's genuine drift. If it only happens in one game, check that game's dead-zone settings first.

If none of that works​

The DualSense's analog sticks use potentiometers, and the sensing components can wear over time. If cleaning/resetting doesn't help, the reliable repair is usually replacing the stick module/potentiometer. That's a more involved repair because the controller needs to be opened and the replacement component generally needs soldering.

WHAT WORKED FOR ME!
Personally if you are at the end of your tether and have a surgeons touch you can open the potentiometers, there are 4 panels with springs on each side, be careful not to damage the springs, my springs were also dirty and needed cleaning I removed those and cleaned the area with a bud and isopropyl alcohol, youd be surprised at the dirt in there, i placed the springs back in and closed the panels, it improved the stick drift and gave me about 6 months of zero stick drift issues.


If your controller is still under warranty, I'd avoid opening it and pursue a repair/replacement first.
